Clinical Trial to Begin Using the NorDocs Technologies SmartStim™ tDCS
NorDocs Announces Collaboration with CAMH and OBI for Clinical Trial in Toronto
Ottawa, Ontario—September 14, 2012—NorDocs Technologies announced today that the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) has begun a clinical trial on smoking cessation using the SmartStim™ device developed by NorDocs. This clinical trial is being sponsored by the Ontario Brain Institute (OBI) to test the efficacy of transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in the treatment of nicotine addiction. The year-long study is currently underway and is expected to be completed by September 2013.

The double-blind randomized controlled smoking cessation trial, led by Martin Zack, Ph.D, will take place at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health in Toronto and will include 66 nicotine-dependent smokers (http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01710410). The study will include a trial of NorDocs’ SmartStim tDCS when combined with nicotine patch treatments. The participants will receive treatments over a 10-week period with the objective of the study to increase the duration of abstinence and to help prevent further relapse.
